December 2001 A version of the 007C for "Safety Instrumented Systems" has been used in a number of processes at a major chemical manufacturer in Yorkshire. Two mechanical microswitches with gold plated contacts (simple apparatus) and two intrinsically safe solenoid valves (EExia IIc T6) are fitted and protected within each coated aluminum IP66 enclosure. The solenoids provide the pilot air supply to two independent integrated poppet valves. This design allows the connection of two separate control circuits to each single acting actuator and allows the valves to be used on applications where Safety Integrity Level 1 (SIL 1) has been assigned. A SIL level defines the "probability of failure on demand". The ANSI/ISA S84.01 and IEC61508 standards require that a target SIL level be assigned to a safety instrumented system (SIS) for any process in which the process hazards analysis (e.g. Hazard and Operability Study – HAZOP) has determined that the mechanical equipment or controls for the process are insufficient to mitigate the potential hazard. The SIS consists of the instrumentation installed for the purpose of mitigating the hazard or bringing the process to a safe state in the event of a problem (e.g. the 007C from K Controls). October 2001 A number of 007C Profibus PA compatible switch solenoid control centres have been supplied to an industrial gas plant in north west England fitted to a variety of single and double acting pneumatic actuators. Two solid state proximity switches (EExia IIc T6) and a 6.6v (0.2 mA, 1.3 mW) Piezotronic Profibus PA compatible solenoid (EExia IIc T6) are fitted and protected within each coated aluminum IP66 enclosure. The units are being operated with instrument air (minimum 2 bar and maximum 6 bar). The Profibus PA compatible 007C allows a wide range of linear or quarter turn actuated valves to be integrated with plant wide field bus systems. August 2001 A major pharmaceutical company has recently purchased over 500 pieces of the 007C Switch Solenoid Control Centre for use in two production plants in the UK and Singapore. The 007C's are fitted to a wide range of rotary and linear single acting and double acting "stayput" valve actuators. One or two intrinsically safe solenoid valves are protected within the IP667 rated enclosures and in the plant production areas wires and pneumatic tubing pass from covered cable trays into the 007C via a single conduit. This results in a particularly neat and hygienic installation. June 2001 An international paint company is using 007C Three Position Controllers in conjunction with special actuated butterfly valves to save significant volumes of paint powder during their bagging process. The 007C allows a trickle feed position to be selected which is preventing product being blown into the atmosphere. The savings are so significant that this solution will eventually be adopted in all their plants world-wide. April 2001 The first orders have now been received from a control valve manufacturer for K Controls new range of EExd Position Transmitter. The product is certified EExd IIB T6 and CE marked to the latest ATEX European Directive. Calibration is via a push button at each end of travel. |
